“Some of our students are one day away from being homeless,” shares Sammi Hester, Head of School at the First Presbyterian Christian Academy (FPCA), “and those are the students in the most desperate need of our help.”
Located in Hinesville, Georgia, FPCA began serving students in 1975 as a Preschool with less than 20 students. Today they now serve approximately 350 students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade, and they are on course to accommodate 400 students for the 2013-2014 school-year. This dramatic growth is due to their high academic standards and strong support from the surrounding community.
In addition, FPCA’s partnership with AAA Scholarships (and the companies that support us through the Georgia corporate tax credit scholarship program) has provided them with much-needed resources to offer scholarships to low-income children. “Our school is a home and a family for kids whose parents might be deployed, working several jobs or even deceased,” said Hester. She explains that the school has both financial and racial diversity, “A scholarship from AAA Scholarships is the catalyst for low-income families to see a brighter future for their children.”
In fact, in Under Armour’s 2011 national high school competition for the school with the most conviction, determination, and drive (the most “Undeniable” school award), FPCA’s 110 person high school student body made it to the top three finalists from a pool of more than 900 applicants (some with student bodies of more than 1,500 students). FPCA’s determination to instill knowledge and character through both curricular and extracurricular offerings, to nurture the child’s humanity – spirit, mind, and body – was clearly a reason for this tremendous acknowledgement.
FPCA’s leadership believes that every child has the right and responsibility to learn and the school’s goal is for their students to develop the intellectual skills and personal habits upon which responsible, successful, independent, and productive lives are built.
First Presbyterian Christian Academy is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The standardized testing method used at FPCA is the SAT 10. The cost of tuition at the school is $4,233 for Pre-Kindergarten; $5,180 for Kindergarten through fifth grade; and $5,563 for grades sixth through 12th.
